A POEM: Father, it is our deep desire...

by Simon Attwood

Father, it is our deep desire

To have our hearts and minds aspire

To Him, Thy Son, our Lord, the One,

Who suffered, died and rose, and won

All glory for Thy name.

The judgment fell; we hear His cry,

'Eli, lama sabachthani'.

Though pleasing Thee in ev'rything

He must become the sin off'ring

And finish all Thy will.

The cross is gone with all its pain,

But in our hearts His words remain,

'This do', He said, 'remember me'.

We at His supper love to be

And there show forth His death.

The borrowed tomb is empty now;

The crown of glory's on His brow.

For Thou has set Him at Thy side,

Who glorified and justified.

The Spirit says it's so.

He ever lives to intercede,

The Great High Priest for all our need,

But when we fail and, sadly, sin,

As Advocate He enters in,

The righteous One for us.

His grace and truth; His light and love

Are life and beauty from above.

He is, indeed, the Preciousness;

Whose deep delight it is to bless;

Each one who comes to Him.

But better far to be above

With Him within Thy house of love.

To hear His voice and see His face;

Rejoice with Him in that blest place;

Bright prospect for our hearts.

'Until He come'. Yes, then we'll be

Perfect throughout eternity

To worship Him, to worship Thee,

God all in all, the Persons Three;

Thy wondrous joy and ours.
